History of SCFGM, Inc.

The SCFGM, Inc. was organized as a non-profit organization on December 9, 1981 out of a humanitarian concern for Sickle Cell Disease in the Greater Montgomery Area. These individuals believed that an organization armed with dedication, perseverance of goals, and a high degree of professionalism could, in fact, enlist community support towards eliminating Sickle Cell Disease in the Greater Montgomery Area. The Foundation's services have since been expanded to nine (9) counties.

Since the time of incorporation on January 26, 1982, the foundation has continued to measure its progress by the implementation of three (3) standards:

  • promoting public awareness of Sickle Cell Trait and Sickle Cell Disease
  • providing community education concerning the seriousness of Sickle Cell Disease and the need for early detection of Sickle Cell Trait carriers as well as the Anemia victims
  • providing counseling to persons identified as having the Sickle Cell Trait or Sickle Cell Disease
